Workshop Package + Information

Shenandoah CREATES recognizes that the best ingredient for the most immersive learning experience is TIME. Time gives a student an opportunity to really connect with their craft, the instructor and the community that has gathered together. Classes sizes are small, and students stay where they create.

Accommodations and class space are located on a working ranch deep in the mountains of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Students stay and dine together in a bunkhouse that was built as a vacation rental for large groups. The classroom or studio space, weather permitting, is in an open “farmhouse” pavilion (wedding venue) complete with exposed beams, high ceilings, plenty of room to spread out and inspiring views of green pastures with Shenandoah National Park in the distance. Meals are prepared by a professional chef and are eaten together as a group in the bunkhouse dining room.

Most workshops are 5 days of instruction, overnight stay of 6 nights, but we have found that shorter instruction might work better for some mediums. Depending on the instructor and craft, there may be shorter instruction opportunities available each season.

Workshops are sold as packages with each package including lodging, meals, and instruction. Material fees and other expenses are paid to the instructor. These fees are mentioned with each workshop description.

“Sample” Workshop Schedule (subject to change):

Overnight Workshop Packages vary in duration. Typically workshops run five-days, six-nights but in 2025 we have added a few three and four day options. See instructor pages for specific details.

5 Day, 6 Nights Private and Shared* Room Workshop Package

  • Day 1 Arrive starting at 3pm for check in. 4:30pm meet + greet reception with dinner served at 6pm.

  • Day 2 - 6 Breakfast in bunkhouse house followed by instruction in pavilion until noon. Break for lunch, then back to instruction. Dinner at 6pm followed by downtime - campfire, hot tub, activity, etc.

  • Day 7 Check-out by 11 am (breakfast to-go)

Rooms:

Most rooms are king or queen beds with private baths. Sharing a room is totally acceptable. A *Shared Room means just that - you have a roommate. If you are looking for a roommate, indicate this when registering for a workshop.

Shenandoah CREATES will make every attempt to pair you up with someone but will not guarantee we will find you a roommate. A private room rate will apply if a roommate cannot be secured. Your final invoice will reflect appropriate tuition fees. Separate deposits must be received for each student in a shared room to secure a space in class. Please note that if your roommate cancels, you will be charged for a private room. You are also welcome to share a room with a non-student for an additional $295 fee for meals (added to private room rate). An additional deposit is not required for a non-weaving guest sharing a room.

An important note: To maintain the quality of instruction, each class size is limited. Choosing a shared room does guarantee a space in the class. Registering for a shared room secures one space in the class. To secure an instruction space for both participants, register and make a deposit for yourself and your roommate as quickly as possible. Shenandoah CREATES will make every attempt to accommodate all requests, but restrictions do apply.

When booking a class, a non-refundable deposit of $250 is due to hold workshop space. The remaining balance is due within 60 days prior to workshop start date. The Book A Workshop button will take you to class options and allow you to make a deposit on your desired workshop. Other prompts like policy information and the need for a private or shared room will also be recognized at check-out.
