About Kathy
Kathy started weaving in a local class while living in South Carolina, and very quickly fell in love with basketry.
She quickly expanded her education while in Japan on deployment with her husband and sons; she was invited to study with local master weavers and soon began actively teaching classes.
She is influenced by her love and intricacy of Japanese basketry as well as the beauty, tradition and usefulness of Nantucket and Shaker basketry.
She has and continues to exhibit in shows across the Northeastern United States, both group and juried art exhibits and teaches in Massachusetts, Virginia, and North Carolina.
About the Workshop - Day Classes
Attend one or 2 days.
Your $25 daily registration fee includes lunch, snacks, beverages, and facility usage. (Please plan to bring your own food if you are on a restricted diet).
There is an advanced beginner level basket suitable for weavers who have some basket weaving experience offered each day. There is also an offering for intermediate level weavers offered each day. Please do not choose the intermediate level basket if you are a beginning weaver.
Friday , July 26th
Madras Tote – Advanced Beginner Level
This handy tote is woven with 3/8” flat spaced dyed reed in a herringbone pattern. Leather handles are attached to complete this casual look. 6”wide x 12” long x 8” high. This is an 8-hour advanced beginner level project. Cost $80 + $25 registration: $105 total
Acorn Bread – This is a long bread basket with 6 rubbed bronze acorn feet. Woven with reed with an arrow design that is similar to French randing. The arrow is woven with dyed Hamburg cane. The basket is 15” x 4” x 5” tall. This is an 8-hour intermediate level project. Cost $80 + $25 registration: $105 total
Saturday , July 27th
Blue and White Fishes – Advanced Beginner Level
This fun basket is woven over a plastic tub. Dyed and natural cane are used as spokes and weavers. An interesting diagonal design is added in as you weave. Fancy rims and mini ceramic fish complete this basket. 6” long x 6” wide x 5” high . This is a 6-hour advanced beginner level project. Cost $70 + $25 registration: $95 total
Weekender Tote – Intermediate Level
This large tote is perfect for a weekend adventure. Woven with reed. The center design is woven with dyed Hamburg cane. There are beads under the rim which are optional. The rim is the same leather as the handle and is lashed with waxed linen. 5” wide x 15” long x 14” high. This is an 8- hour intermediate level project. Cost $85 + $25 registration: $110 total
Tools needed for all projects - You only need to bring your basic basketry tools. Buckets and spray bottles will be provided.
